Mr ObamaUS President
20:05:39 May 9th 10 - Mr. Sun Jian of:

Well I guess when the US established the Monroe Doctrine, I believe some sort of agreement was signed that prevented the US from entering into the Eastern hemisphere but really I am just saying that the US would have a tigher hold on India if we had it ourselves.

20:10:20 May 9th 10 - Mr. The Born Loser:

Don't kid yourself that the US will ever be able to control a country like India.

If Britain could not control its colony, the US, the US would never be able to dream of controlling a country with the culture, pride and history of India.

20:32:41 May 9th 10 - Mr. Arthur Dent:

^ exactly, no country could.

21:13:30 May 9th 10 - Lord Wraith Hearts Wwr:

Stop taking the piss, Sun

21:42:12 May 9th 10 - The Architect:

Britain is a joke, and so are you for comparing the US to India.  There's this thing called superior firepower, we has it.

You'll notice that we don't leave things...ever.  Look at every engagement we've ever had.  At the end we've set up a base inside the country.  One thing you can't understand about America without living here is our determination, when we want something, we generally get it.  Sounds kinda pompous, but it's true.

Britain never had enough determination or willpower to keep it up against us, a bunch of rag tag mountain men beat your redcoats back to their boats and away they went.  Of course there were more ongoings in the middle, but that's a good summary of how it worked.

What I'm saying is if we wanted to colonize something, we would, and we'd be successful.  However, since we aren't in the business of taking over large pieces of land for the spices that we might find within, you won't find us doing so.

21:50:13 May 9th 10 - Lord Wraith Hearts Wwr:

Like your determination in Vietnam? :)

21:57:30 May 9th 10 - Mr. Sun Jian of:

I heard that Vietnam was not a declared war because congress did not approve the war.

22:03:39 May 9th 10 - Lord Wraith Hearts Wwr:

Ahhh right, I guess thats called a training exercise, huh? ;)

Architect, don't turn into a fool. They were never comparing the US to India. They merely said that Americans would never be able to hold a country with the prestige and pride of India, so that does not reflect badly on Britain.

Tbh, Britain gave back most of its colonies after WW2 (I believe). I don't know the reason, but it did. We are a tiny ass island in the middle of the Mediterranean. Quite probably, two pirate ships loaded with guns could take control of the country and yet, when we asked them to, the Brits just left us alone. Big mistake on our behalf, but I'm just showing that they were hardly chased out...

22:04:49 May 9th 10 - The Architect:

For every time where you can find that we failed, I can find you many multiples more of where we succeeded.  We could however talk about Britains failures and the same would not be true.

22:13:36 May 9th 10 - Mr. Kronos:

I could take Malta with a jet boat and a hand gun...

22:15:54 May 9th 10 - Lord Wraith Hearts Wwr:

The USA came around in.. what? The 1800s?

How long has the British Empire been around? ;) In its Prime, Britain was like the modern day US. Now? Bureaucracy takes over :p

22:18:22 May 9th 10 - Mr. Tyrgalon:

So what, it still was a big war and you failed. People fighting on their own ground and for their families are always stronger than the attackers, and you got help from France and Spain.
Not to mention that UK had a lot of other things going on at the same time as they where fighting in America, they had the biggest empire in the world to keep in check.

And you have to consider what kind of equipment UK had at the time when they controlled India, muskets, horses and sail ships. India had a lot of people in it already at that time, and they also made one very large and devastating revolt, but the UK manage to suppress it, took them 1 year due to the share size of it.

And btw, India never fought itself free, UK let it free after countless pleads and peaceful actions by the Indians. I hope you have heard about Ghandi, if you havenīt, then better stfu about anything concerning India.

Also, if you knew your history, then you would know that most colonies made themselves free before India, it got to costly for the empires to hold on to them, and they had found ways to make the former colonies dependent on them, so that they still reaped the economical benefits, in some cases they still do.

22:22:28 May 9th 10 - Mr. Sun Jian of:

Ty shut the f up of course I know about gandhi I am just saying that if Britain wanted that country so bad then they could have silenced those pleas and crap but they didnt because that would have made them look bad.

22:26:38 May 9th 10 - Mr. Kronos:

USA came around in 1781, then rewrote its governemnt in 1787, but prior to that to British Colonist rebelled against the British in the revolutionary war, not looking so well for the colonist in the beginning but after the major victory at the battle of Ticonderoga the french joined in and happened to show up at the perfect time, at the battle of york town

Lieutenant General de Rochambeau and the french navy merely made it so that the british could not escape to the sea, while General Washington and his men pressed on General Cornwallis at yorktown, the result, British loss.

THEN again in 1812 the British lost to the Americans, when we were still a small and growing country. We have come along way, but from the beginning we stood up against the worlds largest standing army and won.

Your superior firepower ain't doing much crap in Iraq and Afghanistan, where America is still struggling to get those countries under control. Don't kid yourself where a country like India is concerned. You will find that superior firepower tends to get nullified when facing a united country with superior hearts and minds in their own backyard.

Have seen enough instances of American chickening out and of American "determination" being thwarted. Vietnam is an example. China beyatchslapped the Allies (including MacArthur) across Korea. Wanna talk about Mogadishu where it was AK47s vs Delta Force? And how about the CIA engineered Bay of Pigs against a bunch of rag tag jungle men? And todate, the Americans would never invade dare to invade Iran, a country who is as ancient and proud as India itself.

Such sweeping statements, LOL! Maybe America will be able to colonize a small, 3rd world country with a short history and a divided population, yes. But once again, try going up against countries with long history, culture and pride, and who have had enough of taking crap from the West. You will find that these guys will bite back... and bite back very hard.

America has nothing and will never have anything compared to the British Empire. Admittedly, the British got lucky because they had a massive technology gap, and they were going up against countries without a unified population (e.g. India), terrible leadership (e.g. China), or who simply couldn't give a damn (e.g. India). But today is a whole different matter altogether. Most ancient countries like India, China and Iran will never broke outside interference in their affairs again, and especially not from America. Why do you think Iran has been happily flipping Amercia the middle finger? They know when it comes to a real war, the Iranians may suffer heavy casualties, but they will go down in blood to protect their country and prevent colonization from America.

Stop kidding yourself, LOL!

04:52:19 May 10th 10 - Mr. Arthur Dent:

Indeed they do, cause a lot of our politicians are idiotic slug-brained retards who say stupid things to get elected by the stupid American populace.  Hence why I don't vote for them.  I'm sure all of the rest of the world only has smart politicians.  I'm sorry TBL, which country are you from?  India?

05:01:27 May 10th 10 - Mr. The Born Loser:

Actually, the country I come from also has some of the stupidest politicians on this planet, nay, this universe, but at least they don't talk about wars and colonizing another country :P

05:12:07 May 10th 10 - Mr. Arthur Dent:

Oh please enlighten me.  And U.S. doesn't ever talk about COLONIZING other countries... lol that's stupid, we talk about instituting a democratic government and overthrowing Communism wherever it may lay... hah

09:14:18 May 10th 10 - Mr. Tyrgalon:

And "liberate" them XD I am amazed how Americans never realise that many of those countries donīt want to get "liberated", they have their own culture and way of life, they donīt want some foreign imbeciles to come mess with how they live.

And just a example what people fighting for their homes can do, take a look at the winter war between Finland and Russia. Stalin figured that the communists in Finland would help them take us over, but instead we all united and became one, when before the war we had been divided.
In the end we officially lost the war, we lost a lot of land and men. But they failed to conquer us which they thought they could do in a few weeks, if you look at the statistics on amount of men and equipment, they should have.
Instead they got massive casualties and equipment losses, got a bad reputation and got a few mostly worthless stretches of land. For us Finnish it has always felt as a victory.

And some info about Uk at its peak:
They controlled 20% of all the land area in the WORLD, and 1/4(!) of the world population lived inside its boundaries. No other country was even near it, the only reason it fell was because it was so wide spread over the whole world, that its military got overstretched in the WWs. And they decided that it wasnīt worth the effort, they got the money anyway lol. The French werenīt as smart, they kept trying to hold on but just lost a lot of men and money in the process.

09:50:35 May 12th 10 - Mr. Tyrgalon:

Americans calling UK a joke, now thats the REAL joke. USA has existed like a 1/5 (or less) of the time that UK has, UK is a very old country with traditions and history, USA is a young upstart with doping/drugs (resources and money) who thinks its the best and has always been so, when actually its strength is ebbing out after the starting surge (resources and money running out), but canīt accept the fact that it is not the greatest after all.

And yeah donīt forget your roots, but donīt over emphasize them either.

yeah but just accept you are the damn sons and daugthers of the damn UK.

14:11:15 May 12th 10 - Mr. Tyrgalon:

I wouldnīt say sons and daughters, since the current generation(s) weren't born there, and many have ancestors from other countries. But the forefathers of USA where brittish.

14:32:26 May 12th 10 - Sir Panic The Forgotton:

I, like most American, can trace my ancestory back to a boat from Europe, but not England. My entire blood line can be traced back to Russia and Italy within 6 generations. Thats the story for a large portion of the US. If I had to take a stab at it, I'd say maybe <10% of Americans are descendents of Brits (original colonizing Brits). Think about all the blacks, hispanics, and asian descendents in the US in the US. They are all americans and definitely NOT all brits. I believe that string has been snapped.

17:53:00 May 12th 10 - Mr. Tyrgalon:

ps. 2 WWs tend to "kinda" weaken a country, it happened to all colonial powers at that time. But before the WWs it was the strongest empire that existed on the planet.

Btw, not sure if someone pointed out to you yet, but your "thats a fact" is wrong.  Go read about William the Conqueror.  Mkay, thanks, bai bai

Oh wait, nvm, saw Path was owning you up and down lol

19:45:28 May 12th 10 - The Architect:

Did I argue the fact that we are related to Brits?  If you read what I posted earlier you'll see that I was telling everyone else the exact same thing that you're getting on my case for not knowing.  Try to keep up with where the thread is going and where it has been please, and read stuff before you post...seriously.

And, though our beginnings may have been mostly british, not so much is the case anymore.  12.9% of people in the US claimed some sort of British ancestry.  Quite alot really, but not as much as those who can claim German ancestry, roughly 17%.  All that really means though is that if you have 1 person in your bloodline who was from one of these places, you can trace your bloodline back to that country.  It's really a moot point considering how far gone a british bloodline is in the US.  We're a mix of everything, and brits don't make up the majority, so get over it.  We're not british, even when our ancestry was purely from Britain we were not british.  We are American through and through, something you fail to realize.

2parts Spanish

all that = American Psycho Mutt and damn proud of it.

Mongrels are the next generation human technology - at least the US is again leading the way.  Who really cares - nationalism gave us WWI & WWII and a whole lot of other messes.  There are no winners in war - but we as humans can't live without conflict and struggle.  There are very little differences in people - if i cut you open (and i truly would like the opportunity) everyone here has the same organs linked up to the same brain etc.  When i cut you bleed red - if its another color...i pull the gun out to make it quick.  What's my point - get all riled up, it doesn't matter until world cup time.

Speaking of which - why does the US seem to be so dominant in the Olympic games, but can't seem to put a decent ball team together?

ok.

22:19:11 May 12th 10 - Sir Mirror:

My... Oh dear. This thread makes my head hurt, yet I found myself compelled to read it.
Off the top of my head, here's a few points;

#1; Americans are American. Not British, though they may be of English descent. (I am a Canadian, yet am a mixture of English, Scottish and First Nations).
#2; America did not win the war of 1812! To put it succinctly, the only people who really "won" in the war of 1812 were the Canadian's, as we successfully defended our land against invasion (although we didn't really gain anything, so our "victory" was solely defensive). The American's failed their invasions of Canada and suffered the torching of their capital. The British lost some troops and some battles, and really gained nothing except the assurance that they wouldn't have to send more troops to defend Canada as post-war relations were generally positive.
#3; America did not suffer the infrastructural and civilian damage that Europe was crushed by in either of the World War's, and was able to come out of WWII with a new era of riches and prosperity, soon becoming the world Superpower as all the former superpowers had been badly damaged during the war.
#4; The British Empire didn't as much collapse as it did fade. The Brit's defeated almost every revolution (while I could be incorrect, the only successful anti-British military revolution was the American Revolution, which only succeeded because of the humongous influx of foreign support, specifically from France who nearly bankrupted themselves helping the American's.) I highly doubt that America, as a colonial power, would be able to hold onto India, an ancient nation that is fast becoming the most populous nation in the world. The British only gave it up when overwhelming local public opinion gently shoved them out.
#5; Every nation has ignorant, racist, ultra nationalistic bigots. America seemingly has a higher % of such (even though I strongly suspect that only 2-5% of American's fall into this category) than many other Western Nations. Interestingly, America's population of such people has been highlighted in the Media, books, film and television, whereas similar people in other countries are not as prominent. Alas, too many people (including, to some small extant, myself) see modern day America through the lenses of the Media, books, film and television.
#6; The Kingdom of England, now known as the United Kingdom, has never been successfully invaded, even though the Spanish, French and German's all tried. The land, Britannia, has been successfully invaded and conquered. (William the Conqueror set up the Kingdom of England in 1066. Therefore, England has had a no-conquer record of 944 years.)
#7; I'm going to go back a few pages and respond to something I saw earlier in this thread, namely God Alway's Yodles (and others) opinions of black American's. Many, many people do not vote because of fatalism, lack of education (rarely their fault) or just because they don't give a damn. Obama, quite cleverly I may add, gave many of these people "A damn". Therefore, they voted for him. These people are not gangster, drug-addicted villains who live off the system! They are just poor people, who can't get a good job because some greedy bastards realize they can get them to work for peanuts. Once in a rut like that, it is very hard to get out! Not impossible, just hard, especially as their culture is screaming at them that it is impossible. Because of that, many don't try.
These people still deserve to vote! Since Obama and his democrats got them to vote, good on them! Having voted (and actually made a difference!) once, they will likely do it again, and grow to like this whole democratic voting-thing.

Path, while I may disagree with some of your opinions, I really appreciate the factual basis for your arguments and your knowledge of history. If you, or anyone else, sees a FACT, that I am wrong about, I apologize. Feel free to correct me.

22:48:02 May 12th 10 - Mr. Cato Phain:

That's my boy - go CANADA!

23:23:07 May 12th 10 - Lady Katie Holmes:

Mmm, nope.  England was actually founded in the 900s...William the Conqueror actually came over to take the crown of England he thought he deserved (He was the cousin of the king who had no living children, but did have a sister who was married.  Edward (the king of England in 1066) passed on the crown to his brother-in-law instead of passing to the more distant cousin William).  William & Co. after conquering England also annexed Wales...

Ironically, one of the most famous battle of the war (the Battle of New Orleans) happened after the war was over lol
