Gaza
13:26:38 Dec 31st 08 - Mr. Xpiff:

Looks like the blood shed in the region will never stop...

There at it again, Israel  and Palestinian, dominating the news. I know little about the region, but from what iv heard, it feels to me as if Israels response is completely uncalled for. 4 Israelis died from the rockets, and the Israeli army has killed almost 400 people in that area in 5 days. That's almost 100 people a day. They've also wounded 1000+ people.

To me, this does not seem like an appropriate response.

It's this....

I swear those rockets (first picture) look like toys. You can probably build better if you visited your local home hardware store.

Not to mention they've closed of the border, so humanitarian AID cant get in, They cut the electricity (power) and fuel so people are sitting in the dark and at the mercy of the elements. They've also sent back many international AID shipments so people are going hungry and hospitals stay under staffed and under supplied.

It looks like nothing is leaving the palestinian area, and the only things entering are pain, suffering, death and bombs from above. It's sad really...

13:27:53 Dec 31st 08 - Mr. Ptah:

Israel is ftw

14:31:42 Dec 31st 08 - Sir Spoon:

Israel is hardcore

15:30:37 Dec 31st 08 - Mr. Messiah:

Gaza is the worlds biggest prison. The siege on Gaza is illigal in the first place, and any rockets sent into land that legally belong to the Palestinians - even if its targeting civilians - is a legal action as per the Genevé convention. Israels response however goes against all international conventions. The only way to end the bloodshed is for Israel to withdraw from all occupied territories. But I dont see that happening, instead they are annexing more and more land for every year that goes forcing more and more Palestinians into refugee camps. Atm there is just one of two things a Palestinian can look to become in his life, victim or martyr.

16:08:43 Dec 31st 08 - Mr. Blood Frenzy:

lol both sides are to blame, this is merely a repeat of Israels past, and quite frankly I cant say I care a great deal about what goes on half a world away...I knw I should but theres just so many people suffering in so many places I really dont giv a sht anymore rofl.

16:37:58 Dec 31st 08 - Mr. Barney:

I agree with Messiah. The Isrealli responses to Hamas activities in the region are completely uncalled for. Isreal is frequently overacting to things like this with attacks that result in huge numbers of civilian casualties.

16:42:53 Dec 31st 08 - Mr. Electric:

That was a terrible movie! Don't watch it! Made me die a little inside!!!!

18:13:02 Dec 31st 08 - Prince Valan Septim:

Casualties and losses
1 soldier and 3 civilians killed [5] and 31 wounded (from December 27 and onwards) UN sources: over 350 killed[6] (at least 62 women and children[7]) and ~1,400 wounded[8]
Palestinian sources: 390 killed (~200 Hamas members) and ~1,600 wounded[9]
1 Egyptian border guard killed [4]

Wait a minute! ZOMG! Avenge the border guard!!!

*Septim sees Shezmu run into the conflict...

18:43:04 Dec 31st 08 - Sir Caradoc:

it seems to me that no one knows anything about the real reason they are fighting and have been for the longest time. you can see that clearly Israel looks like the bad guys but in fact they really are not. the palistiens have placed multpile  huge attacks on Israel way before this. their has been more deaths than this from Isreal than in Gaza. trust me, look up the real facts. you guys are only looking at a small portion of time right here. 4 days is nothing compared to all the lives lost in 4 years... study the bible maybe for a few weeks and you could easily find out the whole reason Israel is fighting. iv heard about 15 minutes a day is you are slow you can read it in a year.

Which bible? Sounds like you have a biased here. Know, overall Israel has caused more death then Palestine; in these 4 days and overall. Also, how does this justify Israel's Gaza response?

19:25:30 Dec 31st 08 - Mr. Erebus:

sorry had to do it xD

19:33:45 Dec 31st 08 - Dark Lord Finwe:

caradoc i think it might be you who doenst know history. a book is no cause to invade a country. if you looked up the real facts you would know how the current state of isreal was created and whats its borders are supposed to be.

i would think the msg is WE ARE STILL SCARY (untill obama withdraws some of the american support and we calm down a lil)

21:04:09 Dec 31st 08 - Mr. Sorra:

That 2.5 billion dollars we give to them in Military Aid every month can be better used else where or even here at home.

Without that money/arms, Israel wouldn't be able to do what it's doing now to gaza

Now I understand the reason that those guys in the middle east hate Israel so much, and to a certain extent, I cant really blame em.

00:45:14 Jan 1st 09 - Duke Michael Deallus:

Just let them kill each other if they want to.  If they had any sense they would stop and agree on something.  I am tired of hearing about them fighting forever and ever.  Caradoc, I read the Bible and I still don't see a reason for war.  I doubt "God" would want everyone killing each other off in His name.

Keep in mind that the modern nation of Israel was created in the mid-20th century.  Also, don't forget that the borders and governments of most of the nations in western Asia and northern Africa were drawn and created in the 20th century, as well.

23:38:02 Jan 3rd 09 - Sir Ryan The Quiet:

Messiah you couldnt be more wrong, al jazeera had an expert on international law on and he basically said that Israel had the right to defend itself from the rocket attacks.

12:08:31 Jan 4th 09 - Sir Wilberforce Pwner:

Thats bull, I disagree with him completely.

13:02:55 Jan 4th 09 - Mr. Sorra:

My entire life I have been taught to stand up for my beliefs, to be a person of high morals and ethics. That's why I feel obligated to proscribe Israel  the most dangerous enemies to people. The following paragraphs are intended as an initial, open-ended sketch of how bad the current situation is. Aside from the fact that Israel's arguments don't even prove its point, Israel's attempts to welsh on all classes of agreements are much worse than mere ethnocentrism. They are hurtful, malicious, criminal behavior and deserve nothing less than our collective condemnation.

I've seen alot of sad things like AIDS and Poverty. But I've also heard of great things like nonviolence, higher moralities, and treating all beings as ends in and of themselves—ideas which Israel's ignorant, unthinking, unholy brain is too small to understand. Israel insists that might makes right. How can it be so blind? Very easily. Basically, Israel wants to reinforce the concept of collective guilt(on the arabs, and to an extent, to the Germans and other countries Allied to Hitler) that is the root of all prejudice. Such intolerance is felt by all people, from every background.

We all need to be aware of each other's existence as intelligent, feeling, human beings, even if some of us are uneducated, confused dips. Israel maintains that it understands the difference between civilization and savagery. This is hardly the case. Rather, there is growing evidence that says, to the contrary, that its plan is to commit confrontational, in-your-face acts of violence(not only against the gazans but against the rest of the arab and muslim world) intimidation. Israel's illigal settlers are moving at a frightening pace toward the total implementation of that agenda, which includes giving rise to the most jackbooted abuse of sovernty and human rghts I've ever seen. I really can't stress this enough, but Israel thinks it's good stratagy to starve and bomb the palstinians into subbmission to achieve ever lasting peace. All this is done while they continue to complain on how Hamas, Iran,Hezbllah and such are the problem and will one day be ready to strike at your front door.

It is difficult to know how to respond to such monumentally misplaced opinions, but let's try this: No one likes being attacked by evil doomsday terrorists. Even worse, Israel exploits our fear of those attacks, which it claims will evolve any day now into biological, chemical, or nuclear attacks as a pretext to cover and excuse the atrocities of its followers. If you think that's scary, then you should remember that Israel has already begun causing mass chaos in the streets of gaza under those same pretextes. I wish I were joking but I'm not.

Many people respond to Israel's coldhearted equivocations in the same way that they respond to television dramas. They watch them; they criticize them; but they feel no overwhelming compulsion to do anything about them. That's why I insist we suggest the kind of politics and policies that are needed to restore good sense to this important debate and force both sides to the negotiating table.

What's more, statements like, "The people with the smallest minds always have the biggest guns" accurately express the feelings of most of the people in the region (other then israel) towards israel. The goal must now be to replace today's chaos and lack of vision with order and a supreme sense of purpose. If you believe that that's a worthwhile goal, then I can unequivocally believe you have a kind and pure heart

Long live peace.

15:36:17 Jan 4th 09 - Mr. Blood Frenzy:

this isnt our war to meddle in, and as I've already said, BOTH sides are to blame, BOTH sides have done wrong. You cant just blame gaza, you cant just blame israel, you have to blame them both. Just take away support for both sides, and let them fight it out on their own. They both hate eachother and israel is doing what any other nation would in a situation with a neighbor who:

  • Hates them
  • Shoots rockets directly at israeli civilians
  • Have a terroist group running the country

At least israel isnt actually TARGETING the enemy civilians. There's no doubt that israel did and does have to act in a war-like manor but it just simply wasnt handled very well. They should have been much more discrete, and much more careful. But as I've already said, I dont really care what goes on half a world away...

16:20:26 Jan 4th 09 - Sir Wilberforce Pwner:

But as I've already said, I dont really care what goes on half a world away...

Then your a fool.

18:25:48 Jan 4th 09 - Mr. Blood Frenzy:

no it just simply doesnt affect me, its not our business how ever much we hear about it we still wont have the true story, im not sympathetic to people ive never even seen before, and this crud is CONSTANTLY on the news!! Since when was war so unusual? Cmon theres always at least ONE war somewhere so why the hell is this one so spectacular?

19:00:51 Jan 4th 09 - Mr. Sloth:

Who cares if its 4 deaths vs 500? If anyone launches an offensive weapon into my country, I say pound the *beep* out of them, they deserve it. It's war not "happy fun time, you kill one I kill one". And the Gazans have every right to respond in kind as well.

00:42:41 Jan 5th 09 - Mr. Sorra:

Just to let you all know, Palestinians have been calling for UN troops to be stationed in between them for years.

Israel has rejected the request stating that they can handle the situation.

I personally believe Israel wants complete control of all of Palestine. They want to keep them in a submissive state for ever.

It's been 60 years of this bull*beep* with Israel. Rejecting UN peace keepers and Controlling Palestinian borders. They even control the aid and news agency's that are allowed to inter Palestine.

Legally, The Palestinian rockets are technically being fired on there own land, where the crazy ass settlers are illegally living, as the UN defines the borders of Palestine as the 1967 borders with Israel.

But you know, there the chosen people, so, international law dosent apply to them. God loves there race more then anyone elses. (that's actually the argument settlers use to justify there AIDS ridden rabid dog behavior of illegally moving into and settling in territory they have no right or business being in)

03:40:26 Jan 5th 09 - Mr. Eros The Pimp:

Sorra, you dont have a clue. The "legal" state of Israel was declared in a territory under British rule. It was recognised throughout the world as being legitimate, except for Iran. Iran have financed Syria over many years to make attacks, expanding their financial "support" to Hamas, a global terror group which dwarfs Al Quida's abilities, as well as Egypt (note constant Egyptian raids and attacks over the years)

When the PLO moved from being a terror group to a internationally recognised political party, splinters within the group ensured the "war" would continue. The state of Israel, the ONLY democratic country in the region, has been at war to protect its democracy from day one. I dont agree with the violence, but considering it is the oldest family feud in the world, who will stop it. Do you think, for one minute, that Obama is going to withdraw support to a Democratic nation, in the hopes that maybe Iran will do the same? Not in our lifetimes. That war is a blood feud, and no one will end it.

18:58:44 Jan 5th 09 - Mr. Wulfgar Skullsplitter:

Background:
Following World War II, the British withdrew from their mandate of Palestine, and the UN partitioned the area into Arab and Jewish states, an arrangement rejected by the Arabs. Subsequently, the Israelis defeated the Arabs in a series of wars without ending the deep tensions between the two sides. The territories Israel occupied since the 1967 war are not included in the Israel country profile, unless otherwise noted. On 25 April 1982, Israel withdrew from the Sinai pursuant to the 1979 Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty. In keeping with the framework established at the Madrid Conference in October 1991, bilateral negotiations were conducted between Israel and Palestinian representatives and Syria to achieve a permanent settlement. Israel and Palestinian officials signed on 13 September 1993 a Declaration of Principles (also known as the "Oslo Accords") guiding an interim period of Palestinian self-rule. Outstanding territorial and other disputes with Jordan were resolved in the 26 October 1994 Israel-Jordan Treaty of Peace. In addition, on 25 May 2000, Israel withdrew unilaterally from southern Lebanon, which it had occupied since 1982. In April 2003, US President BUSH, working in conjunction with the EU, UN, and Russia - the "Quartet" - took the lead in laying out a roadmap to a final settlement of the conflict by 2005, based on reciprocal steps by the two parties leading to two states, Israel and a democratic Palestine. However, progress toward a permanent status agreement was undermined by Israeli-Palestinian violence between September 2003 and February 2005. An Israeli-Palestinian agreement reached at Sharm al-Sheikh in February 2005, along with an internally-brokered Palestinian ceasefire, significantly reduced the violence. In the summer of 2005, Israel unilaterally disengaged from the Gaza Strip, evacuating settlers and its military while retaining control over most points of entry into the Gaza Strip. The election of HAMAS in January 2006 to head the Palestinian Legislative Council froze relations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA). Ehud OLMERT became prime minister in March 2006; following an Israeli military operation in Gaza in June-July 2006 and a 34-day conflict with Hizballah in Lebanon in June-August 2006, he shelved plans to unilaterally evacuate from most of the West Bank. OLMERT in June 2007 resumed talks with the PA after HAMAS seized control of the Gaza Strip and PA President Mahmoud ABBAS formed a new government without HAMAS.

Hmmm...that copy and paste thingy didn't turn out right. Whoops

20:31:34 Jan 5th 09 - Mr. Electric:

Ok.Anyone who thinks Israel is a bunch of *beep*s, think again. You ain't in the line of random rockets smashing up your city every day are you?

20:43:02 Jan 5th 09 - Sir Hirgon Sadron:

And you, my good man, are not being oppressed by the "last bastard child of western imperialism."

The fault lies with both sides, as well as with the world at large; to say that Israel is right to be mad about rockets is correct, but it ignores the plethora of other issues surrounding the nation.

21:28:48 Jan 5th 09 - Mr. Lamalas:

Don't tell me about it, i served in Irak for 3 months a year ago, i've seen some horrible things there.

16:56:59 Jan 6th 09 - Duke Akenad:

I think Israel's ideology is "the best defense is a strong offense."

What can you do when the people firing rockets at you shoot them and then run away into the crowd?  Do you just sit back and take it because you might kill a civilian by accident?  Do you go in and invade at the risk of killing several dozen or hundred civilians?

It's not an easy situation.

11:22:03 Jan 7th 09 - Mr. Sorra:

What started this latest conflict...

just to let you know, 5 Israelis have died from rocket attacks...

660 Palestinians killed with 2,700 wounded and there info-structure being completely destroyed, they have no electricity or power and there sewage systems have been completely destroyed not to mention gaza being signed from all sides of most basic necessities for 18 months befor this conflict and counting

Apparently today they bombed 3 UN-run schools in gaza killing the 48 pasltinian families living inside.

Hamas "bottle rockets" have little capacity to kill even flies. But the IDF "DIME" weapons are slicing off the limbs of children like they were little lambs penned up for the slaughter. I despise the Hamas mentality, but I absolutely abhor the immoral butchery of the Zionists who rule Israel and Palestine and who grew from the same shoot as the Nazis.

More people die from low-income area crimes in an American cities than have died as a result of Hamas. What do we do, make war on low-income areas? Kill everyone and destroy everything inside? Ridiculous!

Israel s using a crap load of unconvetional BANNED wepones by the US. Everything from DIME bombs to Depleted uranium

Not to mention israel is not letting in any reporters, i wounder way....

Here is what a doctor from norwy thinks...thats as unbiased as you can get as he is one of the only non israeli/non arab in gaza

Yeah.....Israel isent looking to hit civilians..

15:14:28 Jan 7th 09 - Mr. Blood Frenzy:

theyre not trying to hit civilians sorra, its jus an unfortunate side-effect of the war. Palestine is one of the most crowded countries per square kilometre in the world so ur bound to hit innocents when trying to bomb the targets. And simply because palestine hasnt got powerful weapons doesnt mean theyre in the right and dont deserve any kind of punishment. The fact is, if palestine managed to get their hands on a nuke be sure that it would head straight for Israel without even a second thought. Its a bit like having a new neighbor moving in the house next door and then hitting your stone fence dividing the two back gardens with a baseball bat. Now its annoying but nothing too bad, it just makes noise and creates a slight dent in the other side of the wall. Then the next day he starts throwing bricks over the fence, which now keeps you out of your garden, and endangers everything in it. The next day, he starts getting ready to throw petrol bombs which threaten to catch fire to the house itself, which is where you draw the line. Now you phone the police and get him forcefully evicted from his house and now your property is safe. Although there are differences in a rl war, this is basically the concept of it. Israel being the one who calls in the police (its army). And in Israels oppinion, theyre much better off having the palestinions killed than the israelis. Because thats basically the decision they had to make, have the palestinions killed, or let the palestinions kill israelis. And obviously, being goverment of Israel, if they took no action I doubt they'd be voted back in at the next election.

21:56:07 Jan 7th 09 - Mr. Ben the Fat halfer:

theyre not trying to hit civilians sorra, its jus an unfortunate side-effect of the war.

jason did u even read what sorra said ?

they bombed 3 UN run schools , surely it doesnt take a genius to figure out that people are hiding in it

also isnt it against international law to attack the UN ?

21:58:46 Jan 7th 09 - Sir Pesterd:

You people are fools the arabs ae purposely trying to gain sympathy by placing thier bombs inside their own villages and blaming israel for bombing innocent civilians
ISRAEL HAS BEEN ATTACKED FOR SO MANY YEARS!!!!! ITS TIME FOR THEM TO FIGHT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arabs are the problem!

22:02:04 Jan 7th 09 - Mr. Gingerbread Man:

The Franco-Egyptian plan was given increasing urgency by the Israeli mortar strike near a U.N. school that killed 39 Palestinians and stained the streets with blood.

The United Nations said the school was sheltering hundreds of people displaced by the onslaught on Hamas militants. Israel said its troops returned fire on a Hamas squad that fired mortars at them from nearby.

Israel's military said its shelling — the deadliest single episode since Israeli ground forces invaded Gaza on Saturday following a weeklong air bombardment — was an attack on a military target and accused Hamas militants of using civilians as cover.

Christopher Gunness of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, responsible for the school, said the agency is "99.9 percent certain there were no militants or military activity in its school."

That would not necessarily contradict Israel's claim that the militants were just outside.

Gunness demanded an investigation, and punishment for anyone found to have violated international law.

Two residents of the area who spoke with The Associated Press by telephone said they saw a small group of militants firing mortar rounds from a street near the school. They spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal. Gunness said 1,300 people were taking shelter from the shelling at the school.

Oops, gotta stink when the residents even fess up that the ones being targeted were the ones firing mortars right next to 'em lol
