Looking for a laptop.....
12:58:27 Jan 5th 08 - Mr. Architect:

Ok, so I'm looking for a new laptop.  I have been searching for a couple weeks now and have found a few options, but I'm hoping there is some place to go to find it cheaper and/or better built that I just don't know of and/or can't find.

So, I'm asking if anyone would be willing to try and help me with this feat.  I need the computer to resemble something around these specs:

-2 Gigahertz processor (1.5Ghz = minimum, High bus = Good)

-2 Gigs Memory, RAM, at least (I am not really interested in anything lower...)

-Dedicated Graphics card, a decent one, does not have to be great...  But I would not mind a good one for a bit of gaming

-Hard drive of at least 80 Gigs (Faster = Better)

-17 inch High Definition wide screen (15.4 = minimum, non glossy)

-CD/DVD burner is needed

Price: $1,100 U.S.  or less.  Preferably less.

Try Acer

I'm looking for specific laptop deals, with a price and a web page attached rather than more stuff to search for.

Don't go Dell. Thats the only advice I can give.

13:46:29 Jan 5th 08 - Mr. Architect:

Any specific reason why not?

13:51:20 Jan 5th 08 - Lord Seloc:

A couple, mu bro bought a Dell laptop recently, about a week after he bought it, it started randomly shuting down, he sent it back and got a replacement. That one started randomly turning off too I believe, not sure what he did after that, but he currently has a working laptop.

Also I am siting in front of a Dell desktop, it's old, and dell have made it so it can't be customised or upgraded in anyway whatsoever.

So therefore if I buy something I perpously try to advoid(bad spelling) Dell and look for someone else, so therefore as a fellow visual utoppian I am giving you some advice from my bad experiences.

Ahh, yes, nice find!  I shall add it to my list.  And yeah, if you can find XP, it is definitely preferred, but I know it is difficult now, so I'll probably have to put up with Vista...

07:18:12 Jan 6th 08 - Mr. Gunblademan:

HP Pavillion with AMD Turion 64 X2 @2 GHz, 15.4"LCD, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB hard disk, 1GB Video Memory (geez, 1 GB!!!! ), has algo gigabit ethernet. Comes with Vista Home Premium.

only $999.99

If I had the money, I'd buy it as soon as it is avaiable :p

btw, it's going to be almost impossible to find a computer with windows XP nowadays, your best hope is to enter the manufacturer page and customize your computer.

08:16:06 Jan 6th 08 - Mr. Twinkie:

Could try Gateway

12:29:02 Jan 6th 08 - Lord Clone IX:

I managed to get a pc with no windows on it, which allowed me to install XP. My parents have Vista, so I know both. All I can tell you is that you should really really really try to get XP :)

00:41:20 Jan 7th 08 - Mr. The Gladiator:

Hey buddy, there's a pretty new thing now, intel quad core, It's like either 40% faster with same energy consumption or 60% less energy consumption with same speed than previous generation intel core 2.

Too bad when i bought my laptop 3 months ago there wasnt that. I say wait for it like 1 month or so for quad core to come out in stores and be the new industry standard in desktops and notebooks, then either buy a quad core notebook or buy  today's notebooks in 1 month and it will be muc cheaper.

Also a new version of windows xp will come out this year (supposed to be mid-late 2007 but its been pushed back to 2008).  Also dunno how windows xp 3 will be because microsoft operating system updates seem to go worst and worst.

Well if i were you I'd wait for intel quad core a bit and windows xp 3 probably  ;)

Wow, good to know.  I think I may just put it off for a bit then.  Thanks for the info.

Get a laptop with a Geforce 7950!

AMD Quad is so much better than Intel

2 Gigs of ram is always good

100 gigs of space is nice.
